Mike Orren

Me
I’m a thinker, writer and doer obsessed with media and advertising, particularly of the local variety. I solve problems.
I founded Pegasus News in 2005. I’ve also served in top leadership roles at Texas Lawyer (American Lawyer Media) and D Magazine. I’m drawn to startups and turnarounds. Some people think I’m an interesting guy. I like to talk. I like to talk to groups about big ideas. I like to teach.
I’m married to the truly awesome April Powell. We’re dog people with some cats whom we also love. I’m a music freak, with nearly 50,000 tracks in my library. I’m an Apple-leaning gadget geek. We sail. I’m an improviser-in-training.
I want to be, rather than to seem. I am trying to find my religion.
I am currently accepting consulting engagements.

Why the devil?
Why is this blog titled “The Devil You Know?” Several reasons:
- The WordPress template forced me into a title and I had to come up with something that wasn’t a duplicate of my name.
- One of my favorite songs, which sustained me through some tough times, is Todd Snider‘s “The Devil You Know”
- I am a Blue Devil.
More info:
- LinkedIn profile (Only accepting connections with whom I’ve actually done business)
- Facebook profile (Only accepting friends whom I actually know — If we’ve never broken bread or shared a beer, I’ll ignore)

Me, scattered around the net:
- My first blog (actually a group blog with a motley crew of mediati). (2003-2005)
- My pre-launch PegNews blog. (2004-2006)
- Writing for Pegasus News. (2005-present)
